new water supply from brine
Blue Brine turns brine, the salty discharge from desalination, into fresh water and valuable byproducts, unlocking new water supply and avoiding brine dumping.
Fresh Water is scarce. But salt water is plentiful.
Blue Brine valorizes the concentrate from any desalination plant — seawater or brackish, coastal or inland — turning a waste stream into water, minerals and industrial chemicals. Zero Liquid Discharge. 96% effective freshwater recovery.
That unlocks vast stores of otherwise unusable water supplies in the most water-scarce regions.
Proven innovation That Upgrades critical infrastructure
Blue Brine announced as a semifinalist in the $119 million XPRIZE for water scarcity.
Blue Brine wins the Technology Idol award at the 2025 Global Water Summit.
Patent-pending.
The Blue Brine Solution
Brine is accepted as feedstock, and turned into recovered fresh water, minerals, and staple chemicals. nothing is discharged.
(1) Brine from desalination plants that would otherwise be dumped is instead piped to Blue Brine’s plant.
(2) Blue Brine recovers minerals from the brine, and separates the remaining high-purity brine into staple chemicals that are supplied locally and sustainably.
(3) Fresh water is returned to the community.
Value
-
Brine discharge is a top permit obstacle and cost center. Now, brine is valorized instead of dumped.
-
Blue Brine is designed for 96%+ water recovery. That represents a massive leap in water availability from desalination, in places where water is most scarce.
-
A new, locally and sustainably generated resilient supply source of Caustic Soda, Hydrochloric Acid, Gypsum, and Magnesium Hydroxide.
-
Economic growth from water supply, new infrastructure, and resource resiliency from recovered water.
-
Sustainable, responsible water and byproduct recovery to enhance desalination projects and avoid aquifer contamination and seismic concerns.
-
A new, at-scale solution to enable water infrastructure and supply, and mineral and chemical recovery and supply.
Blue Brine is constructing a treatment facility to serve El Paso and the surrounding regions. That facility is co-located with El Paso’s government water utility desalination plant. The facility is designed to accept brine that is otherwise piped and discharged underground, and return fresh water to the community, while using the remaining solution to sustainably form staple chemical byproducts. Those byproducts are widely used in Texas, New Mexico, and the surrounding area.
